Chapter Thirteen
Parker
I stand there for a while watching her, waiting to make sure she falls asleep before I step away from her. She mumbles my name once before she settles in and her breathing evens out. I don’t think that’s ever happened to me before. Usually, a girl curses my name before passing out. The way she says my name is something I will never forget as long as I live.
I pull my clothes on quickly, wanting to go and check in with the guys and see where we are at with heading back out to Maple Valley. I’m tired of having her here in this hotel room; I want her in my bed. Shit, my room is probably still a mess and by now smells like nasty ass. The cleaner we hired doesn’t come through until I think tomorrow. Hopefully, she’ll be done by the time get back there. Even then, my room will probably still be a mess. She’s not a very good cleaner; I’m not sure why we continue to pay her.
I step outside and slowly shut the door behind me, making sure to scan the perimeter before moving two doors down and knocking twice on the door before heading back over to my room.
Satch peaks out the door before Drag steps out and the door shuts behind him. He looks tired and worn out as he comes to stand next to me and looks out at the water stretched out before us before he finally turns to face me.
“How is she?” he asks slowly, stopping suddenly to face me. He crosses his arms over his chest and gives me that look a father would give their son when they’ve seriously fucked something up.
“Fine,” I respond vaguely, as I turn away so he can’t see my face.
“Look at me, son,” he says softly. I can’t ignore that tone, when he talks like that, he turns into my dad.
“She’s fine, Pop,” I respond slowly.
“She’s better than fine, isn’t she?” he gives me a look, daring me to lie to him.
“She’s ready to be moved, where are we at with Jimbo?”
His face changes when I mention Jimbo. At least he has something else to focus on besides what Natalie and I have been up to for the last few hours. “You and I ride out in an hour to take care of that situation. Remember to keep your cool, I know you want to protect her, but you can’t afford to fuck up, you're still on probation.”
I run my hands through my hair; he just had to remind me about that.
“Give me a few minutes to help her get dressed,” I reply cautiously, half expecting him to hit me in the head.
Instead, he chuckles and walks off, he stops halfway to the room and turns back to face me, “Parker, remember what I said, don’t hurt her. No colors,” he adds before turning to walk off.
Now I know I’m in deep shit because he called me Parker. He only calls me that when he’s dead serious.
